FILIPP JENIKÄE: FIGURES IN MOTION AND PLACES REMEMBERED
07.03. - 18.04.2026
OPENING RECEPTION: MARCH 7 2026 | 6–8 PM | FREE ENTRY
Galerie Sara Lily Perez is pleased to announce Figures in Motion and Places Remembered, an exhibition of new paintings by German contemporary artist Filipp Jenikäe. On view from March 7 to April 18, 2026, this presentation marks the artist's first solo exhibition with the gallery. Bringing together a significant body of work produced in 2025, the exhibition offers a profound investigation into contemporary urban life, exploring the intricate dynamics of architecture, spectatorship, and collective space.
In Figures in Motion and Places Remembered, Jenikäe navigates the porous boundaries between collective spectacle and intimate recollection. His latest works feature layered compositions where street facades, high-rise corridors, public leisure environments, and stadium crowds unfold across a single, dynamic plane. Within these rhythmically composed spaces, signage, structural geometry, and human movement occupy the same visual field. Rather than rendering these subjects as static, documentary representations, Jenikäe treats them as fluid, constructed recollections.
Cities and environments in Jenikäe's work appear not as fixed landmarks, but as accumulations of image, rhythm, and lived experience. By placing spectacle and everyday life on equal footing, the artist reveals how human memory is shaped through the repetition and constant circulation of visual media. Ultimately, the figures and environments in these paintings are not anchored in a specific temporality; rather, they are carried forward, distorted, and elevated by the mechanics of memory itself.
