BIKINI BERLIN PRESENTS ORIGAMI INSTALLATION BY FRENCH STREET ART ARTIST MADEMOISELLE MAURICE
Visual artist Mademoiselle Maurice, who lives in Marseille, presents a vibrantly coloured installation at the BIKINI BERLIN concept shopping mall from 23rd March until 30th April 2017. Her 140 square meter installation entitled “When the sky meets the earth!” is made up of two components – a ceiling and a floor installation consisting of multiple parts. The installation shows a total of 5,700 colourful origamis, which are attached to 140 ropes and 4,000 woodsticks. Visitors encounter a world in which the elements have been turned on their head. While the ceiling installation is mainly comprised of countless flying cubes in rainbow colours, origami birds can be admired on the floor of concept shopping mall and form one big, vibrant flock. Their colour coordination connects the two components of the installation. Together they form one big colour gradient, which the visitors can stroll through. At the edge of the ceiling installation are also five white origami birds signed by the artist.
Visitors to the concept shopping mall can also become part of the artwork by folding their own origami birds using a short how-to video and then integrating them into the floor installation, ensuring that it grows continuously. The folding technique of the special origami bird was personally developed by Mademoiselle Maurice.
Mademoiselle Maurice is renowned for combining existing urban culture with her colourful origami art. Paper and threads bring her luck so her sculptural artworks are made primarily from these natural materials. The lightweight artworks break up the urban monotony and encourage interaction between people, nature and the environment. Previous collaborations with labels like Louis Vuitton and Issey Miyake have taken the artist all over the world. She has exhibited her installations in the USA, Mexico, Vietnam and Singapore.
