For most people, coins are just a currency. But for Martin J. Fiedler, they are a whole lot more. Even as a young boy, he was fascinated by coins and learned everything about their meanings and symbolism. The Berlin jewellery designer sees them as a reflection of the culture and history of the country they come from. For him, they are art.
Transforming coins not only into works of art, but also practical everyday items, Martin J. Fiedler creates cufflinks, money clips, pendants and even watches. Thanks to his training as a precision mechanic, Martin J. Fiedler gives a sense of depth to the original motif of the coins. And since many blank coins are not available in precious metals such as gold, he produces replicas from the original coins – a highly sensitive process using Fairtrade raw materials.
The Money Art Berlin pop-up will be at Bikini Berlin until the beginning of October.
