About the artist:

Anne Torpe, a Danish painter born in 1981, has carved a unique space for herself in the contemporary art scene with her evocative representations of everyday scenarios set in cinematic ambiances. Her work is characterized by a fusion of memory and contemporary lifestyle, blending glamorous non-binary characters with abstracted perspectives in a figurative cubism style. Her paintings question the fragility and instability of our perceived reality, creating multilayered images that invite viewers into a fictional, experiential universe deeply rooted in the history of modernism.

Julia Mann, born in 1987 in Landau, discovered her passion for art at 19. After a hiatus, she returned to her artistic pursuits with vigor in 2020. Mann's work is known for its special colorful and powerful presentation, aiming to visually challenge and engage viewers. Her use of strong, eye-catching colors conveys an intense, urban attitude to life, inviting people to dream of other worlds. Her exhibitions, including those at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Mainz and Galerie Textor 74 in Frankfurt, reflect her desire to fill hearts with joy through her artwork.

Rubica von Streng, based in the vibrant heart of Berlin, Rubica von Streng emerges as a masterful artist with an esteemed Master of Arts degree from the Universität der Künste Berlin. Her acclaimed "PortLand" series navigates the forefront of contemporary discourse, weaving together the critical threads of environmental activism and societal evolution within the canvas of abstract expressionism. Von Streng's artistry illuminates complex narratives with an ethereal touch, inviting an immersive dialogue with the urgencies of today through her refined manipulation of color and form.

Solomiya Zelenska, transitions from fashion to painting, focusing on the nuances of daily life through a minimalist lens that highlights ordinary moments with emotional depth. The exhibition will be on show at BIKINI BERLIN from 14 October to 18 November 2023, daily except Sundays from 11:00 am to 07:00 p.m.

About the artists:

Christian Achenbach studied at Hochschule der Künste Berlin from 2001 to 2007. He had artist residencies in Copenhagen and Switzerland. Achenbach is also a co-founder of the "Artistweekend". The Berlin-based sculptor and painter, reinterprets 20th-century art history with a fresh postmodern perspective, akin to composing a symphony. He shares a love for music with Kandinsky, and their art resonates with a "synesthetic" connection between colors and sounds. Achenbach's works cleverly explore modernity, particularly postmodernism. His pieces lack central motifs, featuring rhizomatic combinations of geometric shapes and symbols, evoking Modernity, Dadaism, and Cubism. Just as music blurs clear contours and employs an explosive color palette, Achenbach's art follows a similar path.

Wei Tan is a Malaysian painter and sculptor based in Berlin, who transitioned from music composition to abstract painting in 2015, drawing inspiration from Abstract Expressionists. Her art serves as spontaneous self-expression, with each painting reflecting subconscious thoughts through spontaneous gestures and the mingling of materials. In her later works, she combined tangible objects like chairs and tables with abstract elements, evoking a range of emotions. Her art offers a glimpse into her emotional world and prompts viewers to explore their own feelings.

Jack Hughes is a Welsh artist. He holds a BA in Fine Art from the Arts University Bournemouth (2018) and currently resides in London. He specializes in creating large-scale oil paintings characterized by bold under-painting and contrasting colors. Initially exploring existential themes, Hughes has transitioned his artistic focus towards vivid, densely saturated depictions of his upbringing. His current work is firmly rooted in his childhood experiences, drawing from his dreams and memories to evoke a sense of nostalgia. Hughes' creative process now often begins with his dreams, which serve as the inspiration for his paintings. He maintains a dream diary, documenting dreams connected to his personal memories of people and places.

The Fate of The Orchids

01.04. - 29.04.2023

Daniel Sambo-Richter - Solo Exhibition

Step into the world of German artist Daniel Sambo-Richter at Galerie Sara Lily Perez this April. The solo exhibition invites you to explore the complexities of human conflict through a selection of the artist's non-figurative, landscape, and portrait paintings. Sambo-Richter's works delve into complex conflicts that are a central object of reflection. Through his portraits, the artist captures extreme situations of war, abuse, political and social values, and role clichés, often featuring famous personalities such as Leni Riefenstahl, Erich Honecker, and Armstrong Custer. These historical figures' contributions to history and biography are reflected in the paintings through a contemporary perspective, reinterpreting their relevance and making them visible once again. In addition, Sambo-Richter's landscapes follow an artistic tradition ranging from Romanticism to Expressionism and were initially inspired by climate change. However, they have evolved into larger themes, reflecting radical societal changes. Through these landscape paintings, the artist provides a mirror for our surroundings, transferring social and cultural processes and questioning them. On the surface, Sambo-Richter's works may seem honest and perhaps violent in their portrayal of humanity. Yet, on closer inspection, there is a hopeful quality that creates a contrast, reflecting reality. Don't miss this opportunity to experience the artist's thought-provoking and emotive work at Galerie Sara Lily Perez.

The exhibition will be on show at BIKINI BERLIN from 1st to the 29th of April 2023 daily except Sundays from 11:00 am to 07:00 p.m.

Vernissage includin music and refreshments on Saturday, 1st April 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The patriarchal narrative which has repressed female artists from participating in art history and the art scenes throughout different epochs is deconstructed, exposed and replaced with a joyful and democratic look on topics that surround and inspire us to create. Viewers are encouraged to question outdated but yet still very widespread narratives about leaving women and non-binary people out of discussions about the human experience. Predominant opinions which shape how we view society, advance in science, health and how culture is formed. The International Womxns Month exhibition at Galerie SLP opens a vital discussion about womanhood, gender equality, stereotypes and ways to better ourselves as a more inclusive society.

About the artists:

Wanda Stang: Wanda Stang is a Berlin based mixed media artist from Bad Saarow who uses her pieces to explore the cycles of life and human happiness. Her works merge painting, sculpture, and fabric to create a fascinating blend of dimensions that challenges our perceptions. In a recent piece, Wanda broke free from the traditional canvas format by adding layers of linen and an unexpected shape. Her characters' eyes are painted with unique perspectives, reflecting the diversity of people's viewpoints.

Conxi Sane: When Conxi Sane graduated in Fashion, nobody could have guessed she was destined to become a visionary painter. But six years ago, she picked up a paintbrush and unleashed a tidal wave of creativity that has captivated audiences across Europe. With her work, Conxi fearlessly delves into the subconscious, drawing inspiration from the likes of Surrealism and Cubism. She's an artist in the truest sense, taking cues from legends like Picasso, Miró, and Le Corbusier to create stunning, one-of-a-kind pieces. Music is a major driving force in her creative process, with Latin Jazz being the latest muse to ignite her palette. Her latest series has been met with widespread acclaim, solidifying her status as a rising star in the art world.

Edina Picco: Edina Picco is a Berlin based collage artist, whose passion for art was instilled in her at an early age by her father and a circle of inspiring artists. Despite pursuing other careers in literature, economics, and international crisis and aid work, Picco”s love for art never faded. Teaching art at a public school in 2017 reignited her passion, and in 2019 she turned her focus to contemporary collage art. Since then, Edina has been creating breathtaking pieces that challenge traditional notions of art and leave viewers in awe.

Black History Month

04.02. - 28.02.2023

Exhibition by Frantz Lamothe | Martin Dreves Castillo | Kat Pablo & Pedro Knife

In celebration of this year’s Black History Month, Galerie SLP makes a statement by exploring the colorfulness and vibrant diversity of the world’s largest diaspora community. From the 4th to the 28th of February, Galerie SLP is showcasing two outstanding artists who grew up and found their roots within the worldwide Black community. The artwork is honest and cheerful, spanning from collage to abstract painting, creating a touching dialogue on identity, homeland and the uniqueness of Black culture. While the exhibition communicates the extraordinary heritage of the Black community, it further conveys an honest and powerful message of hope for humanity as a whole. Black history is meditated upon from a contemporary glance, societal codes and structures of human reality are questioned, past and present representations of Blackness culminate in one celebrative splash of color. A profoundly human and sincere conversation on identity is stirred, exhibition viewers are invited to deconstruct reality, contemplating the possibility of alternative ways of being. The experience is a transcendental, dreamlike escape, taking a glimpse into the future of the worldwide Black community. In the midst of an intriguing, mysterious yet warm atmosphere, viewers forget themselves in this acidulous, popping color maze. Reflecting on life, death and everything in between, viewers should be brought back to their own, true selves. A deeper dive into the artworks will take exhibition viewers on a visual journey, the range of color hues mirroring the complexity and richness of the Black community and its multiple identities. From Lamothe’s funky tango dancers and skeletons to Dreves Castillos cartoon-like characters, each artist brings their own distinct style to the table. The viewer is projected to Dreves Castillos lyrical sarcasm, riddled with pop-culture references, before taking in Lamothe’s iconic painted denim jackets as a final surprise. The Black History Month exhibition at Galerie SLP captures the fascinating legacy of the international Black community, highlighting the importance of diversity, togetherness and hope. Works from the exhibition will be available for purchase, general admission is free.

About the artists:

Frantz Lamothe is a Haitian-American self-taught artist, born in 1961 in Port-au-Prince, who moved to New York at age 6, narrowly escaping dictatorship. In New York Lamothe encountered the dynamic world of street art and graffiti, even knitting a friendship with Jean-Michel Basquiat. Love, past experiences, and pop art symbols permeate his vibrant acrylic paintings, discussing themes of identity. During the 90s, Lamothe’s artistic production evolved to creating statement “wearable prints” on painted Levi’s denim jackets, a popular series that he recently retook. Lamothe’s art has made him travel all over the world, exhibiting his work in over 50 galleries, from Europe to Japan.

Martin Dreves Castillo is a Colombian-German artist who grew up in Botswana, Colombia, and Ecuador before settling in Berlin in 2014. His focus is on the contrast of complexion and simplicity to show subjects like evolution and growth of the self. The notion of the work is that one can be part of any community, as long as one does what makes them happy. MONOCHROME

07.01. - 31.01.2023

Exhibition by Adi Oz-Ari, Maria Sanchez, Ganna Nesterenko and Vasil Berela

Galerie SLP opens the new year with a group exhibition titled Monochrome. Exploring collective consciousness through the human psyche. Color is abstracted, utilized as a tool to direct the focus of the viewer into self-reflection. From the 7th of January to the 31st, the gallery is showing works of four international artists portraying their own interpretations of emerging social issues. Themes include the relationship between humans, machines and the existential efforts to survive and realize ourselves in a fast-evolving, technocratic society.
The exhibition examines what lies beyond human consciousness, bridging the gap into the future realms of artificial intelligence and spaces created within deep learning. Deconstructing the human anatomy allows the artists to submerge themselves deeper into layers of the psyche, exploring the field of neuroscience and linking it wıth the study of neural networks, as a result, reconstructing the consciousness in a surrealistic way, presenting the possibilities of a connection between the corporal and the artificial the neurochemical and the digital as a gateway to the ethereal.
Viewers of the exhibition are invited to examine the creation, ranging from digital prints to scanned biological matter, while the works also offer different perspectives of the human experience from international artists and their exposure and approach to artificial intelligence as a part of our collective consciousness.
From small-scale prints to big paintings, Monochrome will tell the story of the human mind and the evolution of our social constructs. Obscured in the monochrome palette the saturation is achieved through the surreal, depicting collective thought within the complexities of the human social structure. Internal dialogues of the indivıdual fill the social frameworks, resulting in a projectıon of the intimate onto a global network.
Combining modernism with the usage of unconventional material, the viewers are invited to pause, stay still for a moment and feel the connection to the art, the artists and to the world through the images. Monochrome features works that encourage the viewer to start 2023 with a bit of inner-reflection. Works from the exhibition will be available for purchase,  general admission is free.

The exhibition will be on show at BIKINI BERLIN from 7 to 31 January 2023 daily except Sundays from 11:00 am to 07:00 p.m.

BIKINI BERLIN, Galerie SLP at 1st floor, Budapester Str. 38-50, 10787 Berlin, S-/U-Bahnhof Zoologischer Garten

Admission is free.

About the artists:

Adi Oz-Ari holds an undergraduate degree from the Midrasha College of Art at the Beit Berl Academic College (2012) and earned an MFA from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design (2015), following her interest in the human body and the machine. What fascinates her is the link between processes and illnesses taking form within the body. Her practice examines the expressive possibilities of the body-mind tie in terms of concepts of pain, disintegration, and loss. Inert and organic materials originating in her own and foreign bodies are the elements with which she works. Like a chemical reaction, they undergo a transformation to come together into a lyrical image that sometimes loses its source entirely through a process of abstraction.

María Sánchez takes a critical view of social and cultural issues. Often referencing human behavior, her work explores the varying relationships between the physical and non-physical world. Since 2015, Sánchez's artworks have been exhibited at spaces and galleries both nationally and internationally, including solo and group exhibitions of her different series of paintings, digital art, and photography. One of her notable projects was the collaboration with WildAid foundation against ivory traffic. Figures such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen DeGeneres, and Prince William were involved.

Ganna Nesterenko is a Ukrainian visual and performative artist. She is part of the Artist Collective Berlin. She researches non-figurative approaches in artistic expression, freedom from shape and connecting to the collective subconscious. Her main intention for her viewers is to invite them to open up and step into their own dreamworld, using her painting as a mirror for daydream and connecting with their own subconscious.

Vasil Berela was born 1986 in Georgia, now lives and works in Berlin. Berela studied architecture from 2003 to 2004 at the State Academy of Arts in Tbilisi. He ultimately enrolled in the Berlin Weißensee Kunsthochschule from 2015 to 2021 to study fine arts. He has been teaching sculpting at the Kunsthochschule as of 2022. When he studies people's attempts to achieve transcendental experiences in his works, he consistently finds the same conclusion: people frequently vegetate ineffectively as social biomasses.

It highlights the several personas that enhance our potential as humans and enable us to evolve into new forms through embracing endless virtual realms.

The exhibition will be on show at BIKINI BERLIN from 15 to 29 October 2022

Anselm Reyle: Anselm Reyle's art is closely related to modernism since it simultaneously adopts, critiques, and reinvents its tenets. Reyle uses neon colors, found items, and shiny ordinary materials like foil, glitter, and mirrors to create abstract sculptures and paintings. Reyle self-consciously revives elements like Hard-Edged stripes and the expressive brushstrokes of Abstract Expressionism, drawing inspiration from early abstract painter Otto Freundlich and employing methods invented by Jackson Pollock and Barnett Newman. Reyle made his appreciation of popular culture clear in 2011 by designing accessories for the fashion label Dior.

Camille Schaeffer (Cille Sch): French artist based in Berlin. The core of her work explores the connection between artistic production and its unique relationship to the creation of fiction(s). More specifically, Cille Sch is interested in how these created fictions and subsequent notions of perception and understanding come into being. As an artist, performer and creative director, Cille Sch is fascinated by the interaction between the body and space, and uses this interface as a means of fundamentally exploring and reflecting on societal norms and constructs. Inherent in this activity is the questioning of identity, and the way in which we understand ourselves in relationship to others and that of broader culture.

Tabitha Swanson: Tabitha Swanson is a Berlin-based multi-disciplinary designer, creative technologist, and artist. Her practice includes 3D, animation, augmented reality, digital fashion, graphic design, and UX/UI. Commercially, Tabitha has worked with brands including Vogue Germany, Nike, Highsnobiety, Reebok, Origins, and others to create beautiful work in the creative tech and design sphere. Artistically, her work is used as a form of therapy, often composing questions rather than answers, and trying to faintly touch the unseen edges of human existence. She has exhibited at Miami Art Basel, Transmediale, Mmmad, Cadaf Arts, and more.

The Life of Trees

01.10. - 13.10.2022

The Life of Trees. Exhibition by Barbara Nowy

The trunk of each tree presents the base of life facing us humans. With its roots, which can emerge on brittle ground, it reaches deep into the ground, seeking water and nourishment in all of our mother earth. Hidden from the eye, the annual rings inside the trunk tell of good times and bad. Silent and breathless at the same time, the colors, furrows and scars of the bark show endless images full of emotion. High up, however, the branches drift in the most diverse ways and in all directions - life paths like - to establish connections with each other and with those next to them. In doing so, they gather strength from all weather, rain or shine. And the breathing of their leaves or needles makes us humans feel alive. In the crowns of the trees, new life blossoms on the youngest shoots and grows into fruit. Thus, every tree is a mirror of ourselves, whose tranquility and steadfastness offers virtuous examples.

The First Week

10.06. 11:00 - 29.06.2022 19:00

Solo exhibition by Veronika Cherednychenko

As we planned this exhibition the lives of millions of people were transformed in Ukraine, and for Cherednychenko this meant  life as she knew it would never be the same as her peaceful life in Lviv turned to survival mode. This body of work was created inside the chaos of an incoming war and the chilling sounds of air raid alarms. Her surrealist drawings depict her deepest and darkest feelings experienced during the first days of the war. This exhibition is a special collaboration as we give a stage to the talented Ukranians who have lost so much since the war began 2014. Galerie SLP is committed to continue to shed light on the lives of Ukranias through art.

The exhibition will be on show at BIKINI BERLIN from 10 to 29 June 2022

"A few months before the start of this war Ukrainian society was in anticipation. Conversations in close family circles and between friends were reduced to discussions about the likelihood of the war. Tension was gradually increasing so I decided to make a series of works dedicated to this state – a state of expectation – and reflect on today’s events. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time, so I started the series in the first week of the war when the only thing left to expect was tomorrow. So the presented drawings are all about first days, my personal feelings, anxiety and fear. Work always helps people to go through difficulties, difficult moments in life, and artists are not an exception. So I continue to work and believe in our victory" says Veronika Cherednychenko.

Arboreal Impulse

30.04. - 28.05.2022

Textile art exhibition by Prayer Textile Gallery

Arboreal Impulse is a textile art exhibition that explores the relationship between modern human tribes and nature. The things that we value are constantly changing depending on the environment we find ourselves in. People become more distant from one another and individualism is valued over community unlike the vines from plants and trees that intertwine and lace together. In this collection we are creating a sense of tribal cohesion through this limited edition screen print on fabric.

Born in 1986 in Chiang Mai, Thailand, Apirom Somlit Graduated from Rajamagala University of Technology Lanna with a BA in Fine arts. A trained painter, he has been the resident artist and designer at Prayer Textile Gallery for 10 years. This collection, ‘Arboreal Impulse’, is inspired by paintings created by the late Marisa Buerkle, co-founder and creative director of Prayer Textile Gallery, without whom Apirom would not have developed a love of textiles. Apirom believes that art can be found virtually anywhere when looked for. A refreshing drink created from handpicked ingredients, if appreciated, is art because it was purposefully put together for someone’s feeling of happiness. “I believe that art is a thing of beauty that can transfer a feeling of joy when received by the viewer.” says Apirom.

The exhibition will be on show at BIKINI BERLIN from 30 April to 28 May 2022

BIKINI BERLIN, Galerie SLP at 1st floor, Budapester Str. 38-50, 10787 Berlin, S-/U-Bahnhof Zoologischer Garten

Group Exhibition with Johannes Ehemann and Filipp Jenikäe

Collective Dreams in the Urban Experience showcases artists Filipp Jenikäe and Johannes Ehemann. Together they remind us of the joy that can be found in everyday life and help us to see beauty in the little things we do day to day, especially in these dark times.

Filipp Jenikäe is a German-Georgian contemporary artist who studied in Ukraine. The G.O.A.T. series uses iconic figures, landscapes, and euphoric party scenes to portray the exuberance of life that surrounds us all. His large-format paintings on canvas remind us that we all need to find light in the darkness, depicting  scenes from his travels through Istanbul, Berlin, Barcelona, Kyiv and more.

Johannes Ehemann is a contemporary artist from Schwabach. Ehemann uses polaroid photography which he crumbles and paints onto wooden panels. Ehemann’s pop aesthetic depicts vibrant images of everyday life. With his use of bright colors, emblematic symbols, and dimensional images he engages the viewers natural inclination to seek out his captivating works.

More about the Phone Purse:

"I actually made precisely this purse for one of my fashion shows many years ago because I needed to keep a close eye on my mobile phone timer so I could send the models down the runway at just the right second. But I also needed to ensure that my hands were free because I was still making last-minute adjustments to the outfits. Ever since then, people have been asking me about my Phone Purse on a daily basis, also when I was taking part in the US TV show ‘Making the Cut’ with Heidi Klum. This cooperation with BIKINI BERLIN means that I can now finally produce this unique piece and make a lot more people happy," says fashion designer Esther Perbandt about the purse’s creation process.

The black purse can be casually slung across the body. Its card slots on the back are another practical touch, enabling you to keep essential items like your ID or bank card close and safe next to most standard smartphones.

Esther Perbandt is following on from William Fan, who designed the previous two successful BIKINI BERLIN cooperations. In the past two years, this has resulted in timeless classics: the BIKINI BERLIN Birthday Bag (2019) followed by the Key Wallet (2021), which also references the Birthday Bag’s minimalistic and urban design.

Humanitas

04.03. - 26.03.2022

Exhibition with Richard Schemmerer

The Humanitas Exhibition centers around the principles of humans and the cosmos, our Earth included and its underlying fundamental developments of religion, geometry and technology.

The exhibition explores how this relationship can guide us in the healing of the ego through the use of art, showing us how deeply life is interconnected. The deepest sense of belonging is the level of love.

Richard Schemmerer postulates that creation comes neither from bad nor good but from complete neutrality, therefore lending us the wisdom to live from within the authentic core rather than an imagined enacted personality.

Richard Schemmerer’s mission is to always make sure that Art is valued as a language and dialog, independent of the age we live in. Art is the inspiration and food for the soul and he strives to demonstrate this through love, conviction, action & compassion.

The art pieces for Humanitas hope to inspire greater awareness about moving forward as a collective, and celebrating the planet that we love so deeply but have taken for granted and used so freely for thousands of years but is reaching its limits.

This exhibition is about hope and faith in a greater future.

Richard Schemmerer was born in Munich, Germany and is a professional multidisciplinary artist with a background in fashion. His creative work spans poetry, filmmaking and visual arts. In the past thirty years Schemmerer lived in several US cities and involved himself in the local art movements of the time. Currently he resides in Berlin and is a founder of The Pride Art Atelier.

Blackbird Fly

07.01. - 27.01.2022

Exhibition by Antoinette Cauley

Blackbird Fly is an exploration into how artist Antoinette Cauley’s relocation from Phoenix, Arizona (U.S.A.) to Berlin, Germany during the Covid-19 pandemic has influenced and reshaped her views on systemic racism, her home country, and her overall identity as a biracial Black woman. Created during the course of two years, this series delves into childhood trauma and psychological triggers relating to abandonment, survival and hyper independence in youth and their connection to time and place.

Phoenix, Arizona (U.S.A.) native Antoinette Cauley's work is very reflective of her home city- the gritty and the beautiful. Her work is heavily influenced by rap music and Black American hood culture with an overall focus on women empowerment. Visually, she combines the grittiness of rap music with the beauty of vibrant color and deep, emotionally driven messages. Cauley attended Mesa Community College where she studied Fine Art with an emphasis in painting. During this time she held a two year apprenticeship with nationally renowned oil painter Chris Saper who taught her the ins and outs of the fine art industry.

"As a biracial Black American woman from a marginalized community, my work looks to directly confront and question the normative racial narratives that have been historically presented within art establishments and institutions. By emphasizing the beauty in the many complexities of Black American Hood culture and Black hood feminism, I look to portray the depth and resilience of a demographic whose complete essence is consistently robbed for profit while their own bodies and stories are carelessly cast aside." says Antoinette Cauley.

The exhibition will be on show at BIKINI BERLIN from 7 to 27 January 2022

Eve's Glory

Exhibition by Armand Tamboly

Eve’s Glory showcases women in uniforms of different ages and backgrounds who share the same fighting spirit and strong characters, defying obstacles along their path through life and career. World history on the other hand has been written only by white men who disregard this alternative form of documentation. The uniforms help to communicate this injustice. From the artist’s point of view, women have always had their fights and struggles that they have won; this knowledge comes from personal anecdotes. The uniforms used in this project are from 12 different countries, the majority of them had colonies.

Armand Tamboly is an award winning visual artist with a diverse background in Ad photography and design. He is interested in psychology and history and his framework includes environmental, social and political contemporary subjects.

Smoking Birds

11.12. - 16.12.2021

Exhibition by Moena Weiss

Smoking birds by Moena Weiss is a collection of portraits which depict an individual's transformation process. The uniqueness of the individual in this process is displayed through the progression of the photos in the series. Moena conveys the inherent beauty in the diverse human experience. She wants the subjects of her portraits to see what she sees through the lens of her camera when looking at their image. The artist is fascinated by the different facets of humanity and how photography can capture a person’s way of existing, moving, feeling. To share this process while taking pictures is one of the most beautiful things for her, because in the end we all want to be seen by others as we are.

Moena Joy - Dada Weiss is a Berlin-based photographer. With a background in psychology, Moena is fascinated with documenting the human environment and exploring the encounter between the camera and people she photographs. She works a lot with portraiture; for her, a portrait of a person holds tremendous vulnerability and intimacy between the photographer and their subject and thus establishes a special form of relationship.

The exhibition will be on show at BIKINI BERLIN from 11 to 16 December 2021.

Requiem for a Dollar

19.11. - 09.12.2021

Exhibition by Aziya

Requiem for a Dollar is an exhibition that exposes how the capitalist system is built upon inequality. With the recent Covid 19 epidemic, its flaws became more prominent than ever and inspired Ikhtymbayeva to address questions regarding its core idea: money. She develops the concept of ‘souvenir’ currency to explore society’s shift towards digital currency. This change will render physical money as merely a souvenir from the past; nothing more than a piece of paper which humanity valorized.

The exhibition will be on show at BIKINI BERLIN from 19 November to  9. December 2021.

BIKINI BERLIN, Galerie SLP at 1st floor, Budapester Str. 38-50, 10787 Berlin, S-/U-Bahnhof Zoologischer Garten

Vernissage including live DJs and refreshments on Friday, 19 November 2021, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.

then daily except Sundays from 11:00 am to 08:00 p.m.

Admission is free.

Aziya was born in 1988 in the USSR. She received her first Bachelor Degree in Visual Arts in State University of New York Empire State College in 2010 and second Bachelor Degree in Media and Communications from University of New York in Prague in 2013. She then went on to complete her Master Degree in Professional Business Communications from La Salle University in 2013. In 2020, Aziya participated and received certifications in various fields from the Interaction Design Foundation and Yale University. Aziya sees the role of the artist as an independent observer, visualising current trends and phenomena that affect the world we live in. This guides her aim on addressing the prevalence of popular culture in everyday life and relevant issues. The artist’s portfolio consists of 10 artworks that convey different views on capitalism and money. "In my work, I observe and narrate the idea of capitalism throughout norms by the means of colour palette, symbolism, and text." says Aziya.

PASSION VS. ANXIETY

18.11. - 18.12.2021

Exibition by Álvaro Guilherme

Álvaro Guilherme is a name that raises eyebrows when it is uttered in his adopted Lisbon. Almost everyone has heard about his famous live painting sessions and his pop-up exhibitions in unique places, or seen him in the streets playing the trumpet while taking a break from his ever-present sketchbook. Unintentionally, the artist has created a legend that follows him and sticks to his work. His mediums are based on a plastic and rhythmic polyphony – you could even say gesturally polyphonic. His work comes gushing from the heart and Álvaro's painting is authentic, young, refreshing, and organic. The crystallization of Alvaro’s work challenges the observer in an interrogative way.

After opening STUDIO183’s Fashion Film project with Álvaro’s live painting session on a store wall, STUDIO183 is proud to feature Álvaro’s exhibition PASSION VS. ANXIETY. The works challenge the concept of beauty, embodying the artist’s passion and signature style of interlacing color and shapes by creating playful synergies between them. The works express passion, spontaneous creation and ingenuity. Most works were produced in 2021 in Berlin, Germany.

The exhibition will be on show at BIKINI BERLIN from 18 November to 18 Dezember 2021 at STUDIO183, BIKINI BERLIN.

Biophiliac

04.11. - 16.11.2021

Exhibition by Valeria Valdizan

Biophiliac is an exhibition that deals with the intimate relationship and connection one has with nature, both physically, mentally and spiritually. The concept originates from the word Biophilia (an innate human tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life). Through painting, Valeria Valdizan reconnects with herself and establishes a bond with nature.

Valeria Valdizan was born in Peru in 1987 and studied art in Lima and Madrid. Today she lives in Berlin, where she is deepening her painting.
"Starting from memory and the unconscious, I generate new structures from images that expand and distort my reality. It is a combination of abstracted fragments of my own environment with elements from nature. My work represents a strong connection to the organic." she says.

The exhibition will be on show at BIKINI BERLIN from 4 to 16 November 2021.

Camilla Richter

SPRING INSTALLATION 2018

With standing and hanging elements of dichroic glass, in spring 2018, Berlin artist Camilla Richter created an impressive artwork covering the entire space of the Bikini Berlin atrium.

Her specially developed installation entitled ‘Light Catching Shadows’ conjured up a colourful play of light and colour. The special thing about dichroic glass is that the colours of the reflections and shadows change depending on the lighting conditions and viewer’s perspective.

Zebu

CHRISTMAS 2017

Berlin artist duo Zebu is renowned for their murals, created digitally on the computer from prior drawings, or on walls throughout the city, street-art style. The imagery they developed for Bikini Berlin is just like the artists’ work itself: humorous, bold and reduced. Zebu referenced the mall’s proximity to Berlin Zoo and incorporated the animals in their zoo-related, wintry image elements.

'Marginalia' by Anja Lutz

13.02. 10:00 - 11.03.2018 20:00

For the sixth “showcase exhibition” Haus am Waldsee welcomes book designer and artist Anja Lutz, who presents collages from her artist book Marginalia. The publication draws our attention to the overlooked elements that coexist in carefully designed books. Removing the text and images from a selection of art books designed by Anja Lutz in close collaboration with the individual artists reveals the nondescript details: the margins, the edges, the backgrounds, the spaces between the lines …

Marginalia is an investigation into the anatomy of books – the physical object, its materiality, and inner structure. It is an attempt at mediating the emptiness. The quiet and yet eloquent remaining spaces seem to have their own language – that of an abstract visual poetry of books.

Marginalia is a personal interpretation of the books designed by Anja Lutz with and for the following artists: Kader Attia, Sonia Boyce, Angela Bulloch, Jeanne van Heeswijk, Christine Hill, Hannah Höch, Hella Jongerius, Loriot, J. Mayer H., Laercio Redondo, Julian Rosefeldt, Lawrence Weiner amongst many more.

BIKINI BERLIN wrapping paper 2017

Humorous, bold and reduced – that’s how artist duo Zebu from Berlin would describe the visuals they create.
In the design of our Christmas installation and wrapping paper, they referenced the mall’s proximity to Berlin Zoo and even incorporated the animals in their zoo-related, wintry image elements that instantly conjured up a festive atmosphere.

Auf Sichtweite

30.09. 10:00 - 14.10.2017 20:00

The works of ten photographers show the relation between photographer and pictured reality in different ways. In their works photography is not a window that opens the view to an objective reality, but a production in which the photographer plays an integral role.

Subjective photographic exploration of men of own age by means of strong contrasts and gestures is one approach. Other works focus on various locations seen from different distances: the portrait of an apartment building in Berlin, places of waiting, staged situations in spaces undergoing transformation, encounters in places of reading, green ruderal spaces, landscapes in dialogue with people in urban areas in the American West and also the Gleisdreieck area as a subject for various experiments with analogous technology. Similarly, the experience of change is also explored in scenic pictures, with lighting and with scenic projections.

This exhibition grew out of a project course entitled "Situation and Event" that was initiated and led by Klaus W. Eisenlohr, a lecturer at Photocentrum since 2008. Mr. Eisenlohr and nine other photographers are presenting the results of the project at Bikini Berlin. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog in English and German.

The Gorillas Perfumes by Lush are inspired by art, music, and poetry and are the result of homemade creativity and collaborations with artists, ecologists and environmental activists. And to ensure that the results are presented accordingly, every collection, or volume, is showcased in an interactive exhibition.

19.07. 18:00 - 09.09.2017 20:00

During its extensive renovation work, exhibition venue Haus am Waldsee is moving into Bikini Berlin for one year and offering our visitors a large selection of cultural highlights.

Starting the ball rolling is musician and artist Christiane Seiffert, who will be presenting her postcard-format photos until 9 September. For over 30 years the Berlin local has been collecting picture postcards which she cleverly impersonates, revealing their hidden rhetoric. In expressive poses she imitates architecture, plants and paintings with the help of props including textiles, toys and other everyday items.

The Haus am Waldsee at Bikini Berlin

15.07. 15:00 - 11.09.2018 00:00

Exhibition location Haus am Waldsee (or ‘House by the Forest Lake’) in Berlin Zehlendorf, which was established in 1946 and is well-known beyond Berlin’s borders, is currently being renovated and extended. But that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on its cultural repertoire in the meantime: the cultural venue is moving into Bikini Berlin for a year! Awaiting our visitors are exhibitions, readings, artist talks and other cultural highlights.

The Haus am Waldsee is a Berlin villa with a very rich history. After its first owner, rain coat manufacturer Hermann Knobloch, the deputy director of the Film Chamber of the Reich, Karl Melzer, lived there in the 1940s. And in 1946 Franz Marc’s missing painting “The Tower of Blue Horses” was supposedly seen for the last time at the Haus am Waldsee by former Imperial Art Protector and co-founder of German newspaper Tagesspiegel, Edwin Redslob. For a while after the Second World War, the Haus am Waldsee became a meeting place and exhibition space for artists who were being followed during the period of National Socialism.

Since 2005, under its director Katja Blomberg, its main focus has been on the creative energy found in today’s Berlin. The Haus am Waldsee primarily presents artists who have been coming to Berlin since the 90s and have gained international recognition and and will be at Bikini Berlin from 15 July 2017 until 11 September 2018.

POLARO_ID – Photographic works by Oliver Blohm

14.07. 18:00 - 29.07.2017 22:00

Beauty and destruction // acceleration and deceleration // mankind and experiment // digital and analogue.

Oliver Blohm’s latest photography work depicts our society’s paranoia. Using Polaroid films and a large, heavy camera weighing in at 30 kilos, Oliver Blohm is questioning everything that today’s instant photography stands for: his anachronistic, continuous experiments and photo shoots, most of which are carefully planned in advance, free the photographic medium from its fast-paced nature. Whether it be in his fashion photography, landscape shots or portraits, Blohm’s pictures whisk the observer away into a world of abstract pictures of the mind, fluid identity concepts and morbid beauty.

Oliver Blohm offers us a kaleidoscopic insight into the boundless possibilities of photography. His photos have already been exhibited internationally alongside work by Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz, Ellen von Unwerth and Jack White. A solo exhibition is now being dedicated to the photographer on an area of 675 m² in the BIKINI BERLIN art space.

Mademoiselle Maurice

SPRING INSTALLATION 2017

Origami is the passion of French artist Momo, alias Mademoiselle Maurice. For Bikini Berlin, the artist designed the oversized origami installation ‘When the Sky meets the Earth’: one ceiling and one multi-section floor installation consisting of a total of 5,700 brightly coloured origamis.

Mademoiselle Maurice is a passionate street artist. Her light, colourful paper artworks break up the grey monotony of urban cityscapes and encourage interaction between people, nature and the environment. Earlier collaborations, including with Louis Vuitton and Issey Miyaké, have taken the artist around the world.

Stills & Strokes

BIKINI BERLIN wrapping paper 2016

Stills & Strokes are a Berlin artist duo who create brightly coloured worlds reminiscent of pop art and, in a tongue-in-cheek way, bring objects to life in the stories they tell.

For BIKINI BERLIN, they designed a fresh, all-encompassing Christmas installation and the matching wrapping paper. The highlights of their work were the parcel tape and golden gifts that were brought to life as charming characters with cartoon eyeballs.

HOW TO FIND TRUE LOVE AND HAPPINESS IN THE PRESENT DAY

11.11. 12:00 - 31.01.2017 20:00

Is it possible to find love and happiness in a time that is increasingly influenced by fear and extremes and in which the fundamental attributes of humanity seem to be falling by the wayside? The group exhibition “HOW TO FIND TRUE LOVE AND HAPPINESS IN THE PRESENT DAY” at Bikini Berlin is dedicated to this question.

For the exhibition, the artists Sebastian Nebe and Esther Horn selected 16 contemporary pieces of figurative and sensitive art which broach the subject of existential aspects of human existence.

The title of the exhibition, based on the eponymous song by British punk rock band The Stranglers from their album “La Folie” from 1981, sets the framework for the exhibited artworks from different genres.

The exhibition is being funded by the Cultural Advisory Council Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf and supported by the Kleindienst Gallery, the graphic design agency Lamm & Kirch from Leipzig and the Prater Garten Berlin.

Bea Szenfeld

Everythin you can imagine

Swedish artist and fashion designer Bea Szenfeld is renowned for her consumer-critical view of fashion. In her artworks she replaces conventional haute couture textiles with contrasting materials such as paper. Szenfeld draws her inspiration from the Italian art movement of the 1960s, Arte Povera.
Together with large prints created by the Royal Swedish Opera in cooperation with creative agency Stockholm Graphics, Szenfeld exhibited her artworks at BIKINI BERLIN under the title “Everything You Can Imagine is Real”.

BEA SZENFELD – EVERYTHING YOU CAN IMAGINE IS REAL

08.10. 10:00 - 29.10.2016 20:00

In collaboration with the Royal Swedish Opera and creative agency Stockholm Graphics, the “Everything You Can Imagine Is Real” exhibition is presenting images from “Haute Papier – The White Collection” by Swedish artist Bea Szenfeld.

The elaborate exhibits will be on show from 8th – 29th October at BIKINI BERLIN. Scissors, string and vast amounts of paper – with these materials the Swedish artist Bea Szenfeld has created extraordinary paper couture. A selection of examples from her “Haute Papier – The White Collection” are being shown under the exhibition title “Everything You Can Imagine Is Real” on the first floor of BIKINI BERLIN.

Her creations are the result of a traditional craft, the notion of which Bea Szenfeld is bringing back. And her wish to make society more open and equal is also expressed in the exhibition.

Ana Cayuela Muñoz: Cuba. The emotional power of capital

30.09. 18:00 - 05.11.2016 20:00

Shortly before the US trade embargo was loosened, Ana Cayuela Muñoz travelled through Cuba. Her encounters with a society isolated by world politics led to a series of photographs that explore the effects economic restrictions habe had on human interactions and on people's private lives.

In her moving images, Ana Cayuela Muñoz captures the tiny gestures that reveal dreams of another, freer world. At the same time, they show us a deeply personal view of love relationships taking place under different portents. The result is a series of complex photographs that depict a many-layered social structure – and a reality that is already in the process of disappearing.

With "Cuba. The Emotional Power of Capital", Jarmuschek + Partner presents works of the young artist in a temporary space at Bikini Berlin. You are cordially invited to join the vernissage on Friday, September 30, at 6 pm. Ana Cayuela Muñoz will be present.

LIKE BERLIN / BERLIN CODE EXHIBITION

13.09. 18:30 - 21.09.2016 20:00

The exhibition is showing the LIKE BERLIN campaign based on the ten different chapters of the book Der Berlin Code. As well as the original B-shaped cards filled out by authentic Berlin locals, you will also be able to admire the campaign photos and images by photographer Kai Stuth.

Of course there will also be selfie points with the campaign questions so every visitor can answer one of the Berlin questions themselves and share their answers online.

The Berlin Code – A guide to Berlin in ten commandments

Der Berlin Code explains the identity of the city in the form of 10 Berlin ‘commandments’ resulting from the LIKE BERLIN campaign.

Defining Berlin’s core values

They’re everywhere in Berlin at the moment: large cards in the shape of the letter B and posters of questions like “What are Berlin’s three core values?” or “What makes you a Berliner?” Behind the LIKE BERLIN campaign is an initiative that has published the book Der Berlin Code – eine Berlinungsanleitung in 10 Geboten (The Berlin Code – a Guide to Berlin in 10 Commandments) and collected insightful answers from the city’s residents. The book is a valuable contribution to the discussion regarding the future of the German capital.

Understanding Berlin and its people

The concept behind Der Berlin Code is that we can only realistically predict the city’s future once we really know how the people of Berlin tick. The guide is an explanation for Berlin residents to help them understand themselves better. And to finally provide the many new Berliners and visitors to the city with a well-founded instruction manual to Berlin, to ease the transition of settling into their new lives in this extraordinary city.

MINIMAL X MONOCHROME

04.06. 18:00 - 08.07.2016 20:00

Following the opening of its headquarters in Saxony-Anhalt, the museum start-up Kunstmuseum Humboldtschloss (Humboldtschloss Art Museum) will be hosting a pop-up gallery at Bikini Berlin until the end of October: THE BIKINI DIARIES. With new solo shows every month, the Munich filmmaker and curator Ralf Würth and his team, as well as Max Weber from the renowned gallery MAX WEBER SIX FRIEDRICH, will be showing selected items from the disciplines of photography, painting and sculpture.

In June 2016, exhibits by Manuela Xavier from Portugal and Katharina Lehmann from Russia will be shown, bringing together work that transgresses the boundaries between painting and object design by two members of the Künstler-Werkbund 1791 (an interdisciplinary artist federation).

Sculptor and painter Xavier works monochromatically, drawing her influences from both abstract expressionism as well as minimalism. Intuitively, she alternates between rough and smooth surfaces, between silence and rhythm, in order to force the central element of her series – light – out of the darkness.

With her very own unique technique of thread-drip painting, Katharina Lehmann breaks every dogma of abstract circles. She wraps kilometres of acrylic-soaked thread into shapes that create an abstract galaxy of network hubs. This results in complex dichotomous gridded structures, allowing the observer a wide spectrum of interpretation.

JEWELS EXHIBITION - BERLIN STATE BALLET

23.05. 14:00 - 31.05.2016 20:00

The Berlin State Ballet is celebrating the premiere of its dazzling show “Jewels” on 21st May 2016. And as part of this, it will be exhibiting a total of 20 “jewels” from its own costume collection between 23rd and 31st May at the Bikini Berlin concept shopping mall.

The exhibition was curated by Spanish fashion designer Lorenzo Caprile and Dorothea Katzer. Lorenzo Caprile designs pieces for famous personalities including Queen Letizia of Spain and was also responsible for all of the costumes for “Jewels”.

Along with press representatives, he and his co-curator Dorothea Katzer will be attending the exhibition opening on 23rd May at 2:00 pm. As a “host of creativity”, Bikini Berlin is delighted about this exciting cooperation with the Berlin State Ballet. “Jewels”, the dance of precious stones in the neoclassical style of George Balanchine, will run until 19th June at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. With a set designed especially for the State Ballet by Pepe Leal and the ornate costumes by Lorenzo Caprile, this particularly impressive gem of a dance production features a backdrop that can only be found in Berlin. WINDOW POSITIONS at Bikini Berlin

16.05. 00:00 - 24.06.2016 00:00

Contemporary art gallery on the 1st floor

Works by Martha Parsey

Window shopping meets window art: In a contemporary art gallery on the first floor of Bikini Berlin, the POSITIONS art fair (http://positions.de/) is showcasing alternating exhibits by different artists. Currently on show are works by Martha Parsey.

In her art, British artist Martha Parsey focuses on the sex appeal of contemporary art, obsolete role models and the convoluted self-perception of human society.

The artworks on show are early pieces that reflect upon and aptly observe the superficiality and inner void of high society in the 1990s. Her protagonists are mainly female, young, beautiful, posing with masks, labels and weapons, bored to death –enacting their roles and presenting a reality. This makes the artist’s pictures currently more topical than ever before.

Martha Parsey (born in 1973 in London and currently living and working in London) studied Art & Design at Central St. Martins College, followed by Audio-Visual Communication at the Hochschule der Künste and Directing and Production at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin. Her paintings have not only caused a stir at various exhibitions in London, Berlin, Barcelona, Cologne, Bochum, Zurich and Berlin, she is also known for her affiliation to acting and directing and has directed several short films, including one at the Centre Pompidou about Francis Bacon.

Lorenzo Caprile

Gems of Tutu Art

Lorenzo Caprile is one of the most noteworthy fashion designers in Spain. Specialised in bespoke eveningwear, he was responsible for designing the wedding dress of Spain’s Princess Cristina. His creations can be admired on the red carpet, magazine covers and catwalks. As a costume designer, he is also involved with theatre, dance and opera. For the Berlin State Ballet he designed the costumes for “Jewels” by George Balanchine.
At BIKINI BERLIN the Berlin State Ballet presented the costume exhibition “Juwelen der Tütü-Kunst” (Gems of Tutu Art), curated by Lorenzo Caprile and Dorothea Katzer.

The Bikini Diaries – Elizaveta Porodina

30.04. 19:00 - 27.05.2016 20:00

With its series entitled THE BIKINI DIARIES, public-private museum start-up KMH is launching its first flagship showroom in Berlin’s City West, just a few weeks after the opening of its headquarters in the culturally historical significant ensemble in Saxony-Anhalt. In monthly changing solo shows, the Munich-based initiator Ralf Würth and his team, together with Max Weber from traditional gallery MAX WEBER SIX FRIEDRICH, will be exhibiting excerpts from the current museum programme: exciting discoveries and fresh takes on photography, painting and sculpture.

Starting things off on 30th April is the artist Elizaveta Porodina from Moscow. With tremendous force, the exceptional talent propels experimental fashion photography through time and space. In her unrestricted, intoxicating productions Elizaveta Porodina extracts the visual essence of our time. Despite her young age, the idolised artist can be categorised alongside the icons of classic photography like Avedon, Horst and Penn, even though she never really cites elements from their work. The comparison is more a reference to the visual allure of her pictures, for which she uses micro-fine silver grain. Not only do they amaze the experts, big publishing houses, exhibition organisers and gallery owners, but also introduce legions of enthusiastic followers from the social networks to the art of lighting. The artist, who lives a relatively reclusive life, is somewhat like a reincarnation of the young Sarah Moon. But no telepathic skills are needed to predict that she has a very bright future ahead of her.

The exhibition will be on show until 27th May in the exhibition space of the Humboldt Schloss Art Museum on our rooftop terrace here at Bikini Berlin.

SPRING INSTALLATION 2016

With her floral ‘Garten’ installation, which she designed specially for Bikini Berlin, London-based artist Rebecca Louise Law made her debut in Germany – by transforming the entire atrium of the concept shopping mall into an oversized sea of flowers. Over 30,000 individual flowers were used – real, fresh flowers, as the different stages of drying out were part of the installation’s concept. As time passed, the appearance and mood of the transient flowers therefore changed during the duration of the exhibition.

Rebecca Louise Law is renowned for her large-format artworks made of natural materials like flowers, stones, branches and fruits. Her floral installations have been shown at renowned locations like Times Square in New York or Covent Garden in London.

BFF Triebwerk Photo Exhibition

08.10. 10:00 - 07.11.2015 20:00

An exhibition showing current, innovative and relevant photography by BFF Berlin, the German Association of Freelance Photographers and Filmmakers, with guests from all over Germany.

RED HOT : BERLIN

04.04. 16:00 - 03.05.2015 20:00

Berlin, or Bikini Berlin to be precise, will be on red alert from this Easter! Our concept shopping mall will be the setting for an exhibition of the publishing house Bruno Gmünder, the likes of which the city has never seen. London photographer Thomas Knights has portrayed the world’s hottest redheaded men – and if you’re surprised to hear the words hot and redheaded in the same sentence, you obviously aren’t familiar with Knights’ photos.

The intention of the exhibition and the accompanying book “RED HOT 100” is to take action against the bullying of redheaded people and to challenge the stigma attached to red hair, which Thomas Knights has experienced at first hand. The inspiration was to “turn red hair into a cool brand”. And this is exactly what he’s achieved within a very short time. His book entitled “RED HOT 100” was published in September 2014 and due to the huge success is already in its third print run. And the exhibition of the same name is now finally descending on Berlin. Unplug: Art Center – Vernissage

20.11. 18:00 - 20.11.2014 20:00

When was the last time you switched off and unplugged? Literally? As part of an experiment 12 students from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena/California did exactly that and are now reporting on what they discovered: as a newcomer to the city what does it feel like without the help of digital tools? What do we experience? Or rather: what are we missing out on these days because we are constantly “switched on” to the digital world? Prepare to be inspired by the students’ final projects which include poems, photos, posters, videos, a newspaper and lots more, all on show at the exhibition opening on 20.11.2014.

LES PROCHAINES - the art auction

24.09. 10:00 - 27.09.2014 19:00

Art Truck – Kunst vor Orten” is celebrating its finale at Bikini Berlin! Contemporary art by 19 Berlin artists has been shown at four different public places in the city over the last few weeks. This is a brand new and unconventional concept as the art has been driven around by a huge zapf moving van, known as the Art Truck, to various places around the German capital, where people have been able to encounter the art by chance.

From 24 – 27 September the artworks can be admired at Bikini Berlin, until they are auctioned off in the grand finale on 27 September from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in our event space. Afterwards there will be a small get-together with music by a radioeins DJ.

Heldart – Ready For The Show

14.05. 18:00 - 02.07.2014 23:30

Heldart is pleased to present Ready For The Show, an exhibition by Martin Arnold and Arturo Herrera.

In fragmenting characters from animated films, both artists invite associative readings on the recomposition of mass-cultural elements to explore their impact on the viewer.

They consequently decode the known into something unknown from another world: or to be more precise into something that exists between the worlds one knows.

The films of Arnold emanate the poignancy of a freeze frame capturing the most intensed moment of a scene such extending the chill factor into a longlasting memory.

Herrera’s still image provokes quite the opposite; it extends itself into a moving narrative that sparks endless story possibilities in the viewer’s subconscious.
